Printing
ARE has two Canon copiers on both the 3rd and 4th floor. If you are using a Windows computers, the printer will be added automatically to your computer, if you are using a Mac you will need to add these printers manually through Self Service. Please note that these copiers are capable of stapling. Please be mindful of what you’re printing, our department is charged *per page* on a monthly basis, whether we are copying or printing. Please recycle the paper at the using the blue bin near the copier.
Adding Printers
Mac OS: ARE Canon BW copiers on both the 3rd and 4th floor as well as the 3rd floor color printer will need to be added via Self Service.
Windows: Both Canon BW copiers and 3rd floor color printer will be added automatically authorized users.
Printing Accounts
Printing accounts are created for econ graduate students (only those that have offices located on ARE’s side), staff and faculty of our department. If you have a question or need help, please reach out to ARE IT.
Printer Location
3rd Floor Canon is located in Nelson Hall 3331
4th Floor Canon is located between Nelson Hall 4335 and 4305
3rd Floor Color HP is located in Nelson Hall 3331
Copying
Log-in at the printer
Please insert your document into the document feeder
1. Number of copies
2. Finishing options – if you want to add a staple/collate or both
3. If you want to change 2-sided settings
Scanning Feature
You can scan documents either using the document feeder or using the scanning glass.
- Login to the printer
- Place scanning material in the document feeder or on a scanning glass
- Select Home in the upper right corner
- Hit Scan and Send
- Hit New Destination–>E-mail.
- Type your email address–>OK
- Hit Start
- You should receive an email with an attachment
Stapling
Windows
In Word for example, the option to staple will come up as soon as you select the printer that’s capable from the drop down menu. If you are printing from web browser you may need to use Print using the system dialogue option to get the staple feature to show up.
Mac OS
In Word you have to select the printer–>finishing options–>Apply Finishings–>Printer Options–>Staple. If you are using a web browser, you will need to hit Print Using System Dialogue in order for finishing option to show up.
Manual Stapling
There is an option on the printer to staple manually. The printer needs to be awake, otherwise it will ignore what you put into the finisher to staple. You can wake it up by pressing on the touch screen. Put your documents into the slot that has the red arrow below, it will automatically put a staple.
Colored Printing
Colored printing is available for faculty and staff. There is a color printer (are652d-nh331 on cals-print.cals.ncsu.edu) on the 3rd floor in Nelson Hall 3331 (same room as 3rd floor color printer).
Faxing
Faxing is unavailable on these printers. You may use a free service to send your fax such as fax zero.
