Beginning Nov. 5, the university will disable text messages as a Duo authentication method. Duo is the platform you use to verify your identity when logging in to NC State services like Google Workspace, MyPack Portal and WolfWare.
Disabling the text messaging authentication method will improve the cybersecurity measures that protect our community.
Instead, everyone will be required to use one of the following methods:
- Duo Mobile App: The app is the most convenient and recommended option. It’s as easy as pushing a button on your phone to approve or deny a login attempt. Download Duo Mobile from Google Play or the App Store. To set up the app, see these instructions.
- Note: Using the Duo Mobile app does not make your personal data subject to monitoring by the university per REG 08.00.02 – Use of IT Resources Regulation.
- Security Key: If you are unable to use the Duo Mobile app or don’t have a smartphone, you can use a security key — a physical device used to authenticate. Learn more about security keys and how to get one.
- ARE IT has physical keys – both USB C and USB – please reach out if you need them.
Be sure you have one of these methods set up before Nov. 5 to avoid disruption to your NC State account.
