Eduroam Troubleshooting

Please note that the steps below do not apply to personally owned computer as those are not managed by the university. If you want to install Eduroam on a personal computer computer, you can do so here.

Q:I’m getting an error from W2 installation when trying to install Eduroam on my computer, what am I doing wrong?
A: You are trying to install a user generated device certificate which already has a device certificate installed on the computer. All ARE NCSU issued Windows laptops will have a device certificate! The device certificate for eduroam and user generated certificate are in fact different.

See below for the solution on how to install Eduroam on an ARE-NCSU issued Windows computer.

Q: How can I install/repair my Eduroam device certificate?

A: If your Windows ARE IT issued device is having issues connecting to Eduroam. Here is a simple thing that you can try before proceeding further.

  1. Connect to a network that has an active internet connection. On-campus this will be NCSU (this will require authentication), if you are at home you will need to be on before proceeding VPN.
  2. Open Software Center
  3. In Applications, find NCSU-FW-OIT-Eduroam Device Certificate
  4. Click on it and hit Repair or Install if this is available.
  5. This should generate a new Eduroam certificate for your computer if everything goes to plan.
  6. If it’s succesful the status will say Installed.

You can test it by trying to connect to Eduroam. If you’re still having issues, please contact ARE IT.
